1 map: 11 x 21 cm.<br>Kennewick started as a railroad town in 1883 when a railroad bridge was being constructed across the river there. The town was platted in 1892, and boomed in the early 1900s with the construction of numerous irrigation canals. Kennewick is an Indian phrase which has been translated as "grassy place, winter paradise and dried acorns."
