1 map : col. ; 55 x 72 cm. <br>"Longitude west from Greenwich and Washington." <br>Scale 1:950,400. 15 mi. to 1 in. <br>The pairs of parallel lines that arc across these maps are land grants- as certain railroads were constructed, the railroad companies were granted half the land (in alternating blocs) that was located within a certain distance of their railroad. In certain cases this land was traded for other lands, and the quantity of land also depended on several things, including the exact arrangement and whether the land was in a state or in a territory.
