Title

Grays Harbor and the Olympic peninsula, (1924)

Subject

Grays Harbor County (Wash.) -- Maps

Description

1 map: 22 x 20 cm.
This is the back cover of a Grays Harbor promotional brochure.
Grays Harbor was named for Captain Robert Gray, who discovered it in 1792. It was a perhaps at its heyday when this was published- a booming lumber town, having been a major producer of mass-produced wooden steamships during the first World War. This was not to last, however, as the onset of the Great Depression was about to, if not already beginning to, severely curtail the lumber industry.
The promotional brochure that this map is part of was attempting to sell Grays Harbor primarily as a tourism locale- the first pages contain a photo captioned "Beaches Ideal for Auto Racing"...
