Description
A photograph of a Home Economics laboratory located in Van Doren, WSU building #37. A class of students, wearing white aprons, bake under the instruction of Miss Hunt. Electric cords from heating sources placed atop two long work surfaces are visible in the center of the photograph. Van Doren, designed by J. K. Dow & D. Z. Hubbell was built in 1908 (at a cost of $25,000) as the "domestic economy" building. At the time it was the only structure west of Chicago devoted entirely to Home Economics courses. Named for Ms. Nancy L. Van Doren (the first building on campus named after a woman) professor of English and Librarian at the start of WSU.
